We’ve been watching a lot of Bob Ross at our house lately. It was one of my favorite TV shows as a little kid, and I am tickled to see how mesmerizing it is to both of my kids now too.
Power over you own outcomes
I’ve been ruminating these past few days on where I am with my business and life and where I want to go from here. Part of my personal philosophy of life is acknowledging the power you have over your own outcomes. It’s easy to get pushed around by the current and get so overwhelmed that you lose a sense of empowerment and direction. It’s one the reasons I believe so strongly in advantages of home businesses like Pure Romance. They allow you to take control of schedule and career direction in a very unique way.
Every so often though, even when you are self-employed, you need to look around at your environment, assess your level of happiness and accomplishment and make sure you are still on the right path. If not, it is time for changes. I’m in that stage right now. Reevaluating. Reassessing. Rearranging. During this time, I’ve been hearing a lot of Bob Ross in the background.
In painting, you have unlimited power. You have the ability to move mountains. You can bend rivers. But when I get home, the only thing I have power over is the garbage.
I’d like to think we have more power in the real world than just taking out the garbage. And if we do, we need to make sure we take advantage of it.
Making Happy Trees
So, today, I’m thinking about the world as my canvas and what I want to put in it, where I want to put my trees – my HAPPY trees. Things that make me happy:
- My family
- Having a lovely but clutter free home
- Doing work that matters
- My cat
- My husband’s coffee
- Watching my 5 year old color
- Bob Ross
- All things pink
- Making my customers REALLY happy
- Benedict Cumberbatch (and most other things nerd)
